With respect to the recent announcement of BN Direct Candidates fielded in SUPP seats, SUPP acknowledges that this is clearly not our best moment in our 57-year history but we recognize that resilience at this point in time is key. It is not the strongest nor the smartest that will survive, but the most adaptable.
SUPP is a multi-racial multi-faith party. Hence the party feels shortchanged by the allocation of only 1 and not 2 new seats (of the 11) in bumiputra majority areas as previously announced by CM on multiple occasions. To have a meaningful coalition, diversity and pluralism is a must. In this regard, we concur with Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Jemut Masing’s (PRS) opinion that PBB should not have more than 41 seats (out of 82). Once PBB’s seats exceed 41, the logical thing is for the direct candidates to join other BN component parties and the first choice is to the BN component parties where the seats belong to.
I also wish to reiterate that SUPP seats currently field by BN Direct Candidates remain as SUPP seats. Should they succeed in securing these seats for BN, their choice of a political party is quite clear.
Our immediate goal is to win our existing seats, consolidate power to prepare for the longer-term fight as well as to keep check and balance within BN government. Only the rakyat can make SUPP strong again. Give us a chance to prove to you what new SUPP can do.
We have urged the rakyat to keep focus on the critical issue at stake: to regain Sarawak’s autonomy from Putrajaya. This State election has a greater mission beyond the Sarawak Election. This election is about the future of the people of Sarawak and how we can regain our regain our right to decide and steer our own future.
To the SUPP members, I urge them to remain calm and focused. Comments that are not constructive or impractical only serve to distract us from the critical mission at hand, which is to win our existing seats in this upcoming election.
Now is the time to put our past differences aside, and stand united to safeguard Sarawak. Now is the time for us to pool our efforts together and focus on denying West Malaysian parties on making further inroads into Sarawak politics. State Elections are for state issues and not federal issues. United we can!
